How Rick’s Certified Arborists is Giving Back to the Community

As an organization, we believe in the principle of giving back to the communities we serve. Our commitment to these communities is essential to us as a company and as individuals as well. Contributing financially is one way we give back and when time permits, we donate service time to the organizations we have selected as community partners.

Our Mission

Our mission is to eliminate hunger in the Perkiomen area by providing residents in need with programs that provide food, promote the value of nutrition, increase self-sufficiency, and instill hope. In doing so, the Daily Bread food pantry helps to ensure that food relief has a more meaningful, enduring impact.

About Us

The Daily Bread Community Food Pantry is the fourth largest food pantry in Montgomery County, serving approximately 300 families or 1,200 individuals each month.

The pantry serves a broad area in Montgomery County – from the northern reaches of Perkiomenville and Gilbertsville to the southern areas of Collegeville and Eagleville. It is overseen by the Community Action Development Commission (CADCOM), the leading anti-poverty agency in Montgomery County.

Unlike many other food pantries, the Daily Bread Community Food Pantry attempts to provide a full week of emergency food for all those it serves. It aims to provide personal care products not covered by Food Stamps that hit hard at family food shopping budgets. This includes items like toilet paper, feminine care products, diapers and wipes, and hygiene supplies.

The pantry also provides food for special populations. For example, there are diabetic and gluten-free food and supplies, food for beloved family pets, and special packages for new mothers or guardians that include things like formula, diapers, and wipes.

For individuals or families who just miss the poverty threshold that offers access to state and federal food, the food pantry provides food and supplies from private donations.

Our Vision
We help grow people (in difficult places).

Greenhouses help plants thrive in impossible situations. Similarly, we seek to incubate the long-term transformation of individuals, families, and communities in difficult areas. How do we do that? By living where we work, loving our neighbors, and supporting urban renewal.

How did this project begin?

With interaction with God.

Pastor John came to Chester, PA, from prison to recover. After a drug addiction, Chester became his home while experiencing homelessness. A local Christ-centered discipleship program accepted him into their recovery program. While volunteering, he learned to help meet the immediate and physical needs of those around him through food, shelter, clothing, and other generous donations.

However, after a decade of work, he realized an integral piece was missing — lasting transformation.

He saw the same people coming in for aid or assistance time and time again. Ten years later, there were the same needs and no sustainable solutions for lasting change.

So we bought a house.

Why? Because real transformation only happens in a community in which lives are shared. This is what happened to John. He was given a second chance when people saw value in him while he had nothing to offer. Through Biblical training and loving neighbors, John was challenged to give back and help the “next person”. Many development programs meet urgent needs and people in crisis, but Greenhouse Project is focused on relationships through immersion to create a lasting impact. We live with, assess, and navigate solutions to a plethora of challenges with marginalized people so that we, as mentors, can nurture them long-term into life-giving persons and sustainable families.

This kind of impact is what changes a city. A generation. A nation.
